He Forgave
Jesus forgave all of those people for doing him wrong.
He pleaded God's mercy on them, he loved them all along.
They tore his clothes and struck him down.
They spit on him, and placed on him a hurtful crown.
They dragged him and beat him. His lips screamed his pain.
Why didn't they stop there? What did they have to gain?
They could not break his spirit, so they hurt him some more.
And as if that weren't bad enough, they were keeping score.
Mocking him and laughing at him right in front of his face.
Jesus forgave them and prayed for them to receive God's grace.
No one came to his rescue, that was his part to fill.
And he carried that cross to the top of that hill.
They hung him on that cross for everyone to see.
I wonder if anyone cried out, "Stop! He is dying for me!"
Did they ever realize what they had done?
Did they ever realize that they had sacrificed God's Only Son?
He forgave them. Can you believe that? And he forgives still today.
Accept his love for you. Heaven is waiting and Jesus has paid your way.
Jesus knew all along what he was going to endure.
It was his purpose to provide the sinners their only cure.
My name was carved onto that heavy cross he had to bear.
Where would I be without his forgiveness today... Only God knows where.
